Giving & Fundraising

The spirit of giving is an essential element of daily life here at Good Shepherd. Parents, Grandparents, alumni and friends help support our students in a variety of ways. So many of the great programs and facility improvements are made possible by the generous contributions made through our various giving and fundraising programs. This spirit of giving is fostered among the students as well as they are encouraged to reach out into the community through various events and through chapel donations.

There are a number of different ways in which you can support the activities of the school. To give your time please read more about our Volunteer Opportunities. To make a financial contribution please read more about our Annual Fund Program and the Wine Taster’s Auction. And of course to give the simplest of ways, please read about our Scrip program.

We thank you for your commitment to our school.

Greetings from the Development Office!

Fundraising, of course, is the main function of the Development Office. And, in this, we are also inspired by the generosity of our community. Every year we work with a team of parent volunteers to execute the Annual Fund. In 2006–2007 we raised $14,000. Last year’s chair, Gayle Hays, along with Tricia Anderson, are stepping up to go for a record-breaking campaign. Last year we also celebrated a milestone in the school’s history: our 30 year anniversary of the school.

The generosity of our parents and church members as donors and volunteers makes our community truly remarkable. We are so fortunate to have so many committed families in our midst: those who give both their time and their financial resources to improve the health and strength of our school.

Thank you for all you do!

Ways to Give

Opportunities to Support Good Shepherd Lutheran School

  • Cash
A cash gift entitles you to a charitable deduction against income. The deduction must be taken in the year in which your gift is made. Cash gifts can be made as a one-time contribution, or in installments as payments toward a pledge. For your convenience, cash gifts may be paid via check or credit card.
  • Gifts of Stock
A gift of appreciated securities entitles you to a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities without paying tax on the securities’ appreciation. Please contact Karen Kane at 415-897-2510 for more information.
  • Matching Gifts
Companies often sponsor matching-gift programs that can double an employee’s charitable contribution. Ask your company’s personnel office for more information on directing a matching gift to Good Shepherd Lutheran School.
  • Planned Gifts
Planned gifts from donors’ wills and trusts can provide a current charitable deduction in addition to income for your lifetime. The income can be distributed to you, the donor, your spouse or other designee, after which the assets would be distributed to the school. Institutions can achieve stability and growth through planned giving. Contact your tax advisor for specific information that relates to your particular circumstances.
  • Life Insurance
A gift of a paid-up life insurance policy can provide a tax deduction to the donor and a significant gift to the school. Life insurance premiums are tax deductible if the school is designated as the owner and the beneficiary of the policy.
  • Gifts in Kind
Independent schools welcome donations such as computers, office equipment, classroom supplies, athletic equipment, books and other items related to the educational program. The Development Office will be happy to help you determine the acceptability of gifts. Gift value will be determined by the donor through appraisal or record of purchase. Good Shepherd Lutheran School does not assign value to used items.
  • Multi-Year Pledges for Major Gifts
Pledges can be paid over several years. In other words, a donor can pledge a gift in one year, but can take several years to complete the fulfillment of that pledge.
  • Restricted and Unrestricted Gifts
While the school finds unrestricted gifts the most useful, gifts can also be restricted to a particular area or project of donor interest.
  • Gifts of Real Estate
Real property, either in entirety or in part, can be deeded to Good Shepherd Lutheran School. It is even possible to arrange a sizable tax deduction by deeding a home or farm to the school now, while continuing to occupy the property for life.
  • Memorial and Honorary Tribute Gifts
A memorial gift to Good Shepherd Lutheran School can help perpetuate values and ideals that guided a loved one’s life. Gifts may honor a person during his/her lifetime, or commemorate a significant event. Families of those honored will be sent notification of the donor’s gift.
