Preschool
Curriculum Overview
Emphasis in our Preschool curriculum is placed on learning to live together and exploring the world through play, art, music, language and the senses. The programs for the 2 and 3 year-olds focus on motor development and developmental learning. The 4 year-old program prepares students for Kindergarten. This involves familiarization with the alphabet, reading readiness and mathematics through manipulative use.
Our Preschool Program is proud to be accredited by the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation.
2 Year Old Program
Good Shepherd Lutheran School has a wonderful 2 year old program with highly-qualified, enthusiastic teachers. The curriculum for our 2 year-olds is very play-based, age appropriate and hands-on. The 2’s start off the year by learning a variety of colors. That theme is followed closely by shapes, including activities such as play-dough, open-ended art, science activities and dramatic play. Circle time is very much enjoyed as the children meet for stories, music and movement and finger-plays. The 2’s explore their world through play, art, music, language and the senses.
3 Year Old Program
Our 3 year old class focuses on motor development and developmental learning. Like the 2 year old class, this curriculum is also play-based, very hands on and age appropriate. Some of the activities the “3’s” enjoy are open-ended art, such as glueing, fingerpainting (with paint, shaving cream and sometimes even chocolate pudding!) learning about numbers, shapes and colors through manipulatives, science activities, music and movement etc. The “3’s” classroom has a large dramatic play room where children carry on wonderful conversations They have a beautiful playground right outside their classroom door (as do the “2’s”) and enjoy running and playing, as weather permits.
4 Year Old Program
Our 4-year old program prepares students for Kindergarten with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities. The curriculum includes familiarization with the alphabet, reading readiness and mathematics through manipulative use. The “4’s” practice language arts, enjoy open-ended art activities, science and cooking all in a hands-on environment. Kindermusik is also included in the “4’s” program, as well as the “3’s” program. The children have plenty of outside time in one of our up to date playgrounds, running, playing, and exploring!
