Chapel Performances
Three times a year, at Christmas, Easter and at the close of the school year, all Good Shepherd children, from 2 years to fifth grade, have the opportunity to present their chapel songs in front of an audience of family and friends. The third, fourth and fifth graders combine song with dance and story telling. This is not only a fun and proud experience but also the beginnings of public speaking. By the time our students reach the fifth grade they have been in front of an audience so often that they are comfortable. Their closing chapel is done with grace and poise.
Assemblies
Paid for by the Good Shepherd Parents Association, assemblies are an age appropriate presentation by an outside group usually in dance, science, music, drama, or wildlife. They take place every 6-8 weeks, approximately 4 assemblies per school year.
We strive for assemblies that are educational, cultural, interesting and fun. In the past we’ve had the Peking Acrobats, Neva Russian Dance Ensemble, Insect Discovery Lab, Pioneer Living Display, Jim Gamble Puppets, a presentation on Martin Luther King Jr., Center for Ecosystem Survival, the Portable Planetarium and many others. The children have been known to talk about what they saw for days after the event.
Auction
Each school year GSLS hosts a Wine Taster’s Dinner and Auction Fundraiser.
Funds from this annual event are used to expand and enrich our students’ educational experience and improve facilities. This fabulous evening of giving is coordinated by several very generous and dedicated parent volunteers.
