Carol Wise
First Grade
During her more than thirty years in education, Mrs. Wise’s passion for teaching has led to numerous experiences serving the educational community.
Carol has taught first grade for 14 years at GSLS. She received her MS in Education and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Dominican University in San Rafael. She finished the Educational Therapy Program at UC Berkeley and is currently pursuing an additional credential as a Reading Specialist along with a Master’s Degree in Reading & Language.
Carol feels that the essence of teaching is creating meaningful learning experiences for children and that the most important of all the new skills to be learned during first and second grade are reading and writing. One of her goals each year is to help the children grow as independent readers and writers and to develop a love for books and reading that can last a lifetime!
As a native Californian, and from a family of educators, Carol learned at an early age the value of education and life-long learning. Carol lives in Novato with her husband Tom. They have been married for thirty seven years and have five adult children, three dogs, two cats and two adorable grandchildren. On the weekends Carol and Tom can be found at local college sporting events, concerts, movies, and plays. They love local music and cultural celebrations. She enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, walking the stairways of San Francisco, traveling and most of all playing with her grandchildren.
