About Good Shepherd
We are delighted that you are interested in Good Shepherd Lutheran School (GSLS). Founded in 1976 as a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, GSLS provides a comprehensive Preschool – 8th grade education serving the children of families in Marin and Sonoma Counties. Based on biblical principles and centered on Jesus Christ, we are first and foremost a faith community. Secondly, we are a community that believes the best education takes place within the context of relationships, and where the uniqueness of every child is valued.
We are excited about the future at Good Shepherd Lutheran School and believe we are a focused learning community, prepared to help students understand, evaluate and transform their world from the foundation of God's unchanging values.
Welcome!
Christian Community
Tucked away in the beautiful rolling hills of Novato, Good Shepherd Lutheran School offers an enriched, comprehensive K–8 program in a nurturing learning environment. Small classes emphasize one of the core values of GSLS... that education is relationship. Teachers integrate a Christian worldview into the curriculum thereby creating foundations of faith, integrity, leadership, service to others and academic excellence. In addition to the core curriculum, GSLS offers an enriching experience taught by specialists in the areas of music – both vocal and instrumental, art, technology, Spanish, outdoor education, gardening and physical education.
Good Shepherd Lutheran School’s preschool philosophy is based on the knowledge that children learn through experience—they learn by doing. We work towards enhancing the development of the "whole child." We strive to provide a program that nurtures their social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development while providing an environment that is child-centered and with as many hands-on projects as possible. Preschool is the beginning of the child's school experience. Happy and nurturing experiences in preschool build a positive attitude that can be the foundation for life-long learning.
GSLS is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association and the California Association of Private School Organizations, and is accredited by the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC).
